According to a Lifesite News article (see here), Pope Leo said the following in an interview:
People want the Church doctrine to change, want attitudes to change. I think we have to change attitudes before we ever change doctrine.
Given that Catholic Church doctrine is the teaching of Jesus, as stated by Him or as interpreted by the Church over time via the Holy Spirit, I think there is really only one ‘attitude’ that would need to be changed: Jesus’.
And I don’t think Jesus is going to change His mind. What He said 2,000 years ago was the truth, and it still applies today.
People who think doctrine should change are really saying that Jesus got it wrong. They are really saying that they think they are smarter than Jesus. They are really saying that Jesus isn’t the Son of God.
And I think those people are wrong.
