Patient Endurance

Luke 8:15 – But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

I especially like this line from Luke as it encapsulates, very simply, what I must do.  It’s nothing fancy, just a straight-ahead ‘here’s how you do it’.

‘…when they hear the word….’ – I must seek God’s word.

‘…hold it fast in an honest and good heart…’ – I must cling to God’s word.  I must be honest with myself, and with God, no matter how much it hurts.  I must strive to be good, with a heart directed towards God.

‘…and bear fruit with patient endurance…’ – I don’t know about you, but I find the fruit comes slowly and with much effort.  It’s never fast and it’s never easy.  I stumble all the time, but try to keep going.  ‘Patient endurance’ is a wonderful way to describe it.  Knowing that the evil out there is always fighting against us, and the evil is more powerful than we are, but that God gives us what we need, keeps me going.

Eventually, with patient endurance, we can bear fruit for God.  Which is pretty amazing, if you think about it.

Peace be with you.

Steve.
