Tariffs and Counter-Tariffs

President Trump imposed his tariffs and Prime Minister Trudeau (supported by most provincial premiers) has retaliated.

My understanding of why President Trump imposed the tariffs is that he wants Canada to better control immigration, better control the Canadian side of the Canada/U.S. border, and prevent fentanyl being created in Canada and smuggled into the U.S.

What I want to understand is why most of the Canadian governments at various levels are opposed to those things.  They seem to want unfettered immigration, an open border, and illegal drug smuggling.  From where I sit, it looks like they would rather create counter-tariffs against the U.S. than tackle those issues.

It makes me wonder what Canadian governments get out of leaky borders and drug smuggling.

A government based on true Christian principles would never allow a leaky border and illegal drug manufacturing/smuggling.  It’s a shame we don’t have such a government.

Peace be with you.

Steve.

Note – I just finished posting this and I see CTV News is saying that the tariffs are being delayed for 30 days.  A ‘Fentanyl Czar’ is funny…just more bureaucracy.  Don’t we already have laws against fentanyl?  Why do we need another government department? Anyway, we’ll see what happens from here.  I doubt anything will change.
